Dwelling Place’s Artist in Residence program brings artists and neighbors together to imagine, create, and grow community through art. Artists live and work in the Heartside neighborhood of Grand Rapids, embedding themselves in the daily rhythm of a place rich with stories, complexity, and possibility.

We believe in the power of art to connect, disrupt, heal, and build. That’s why our residents, staff, and artists collaborate to bring bold, people-centered creativity to life in shared spaces.

About the program

Art sparks connection, belonging, and possibility. At Dwelling Place, we believe that creativity has the power to strengthen communities. • Residents experience a stronger sense of community and belonging

  • Neighborhood history and social justice issues are lifted up and shared

  • New connections form between residents and creative culture

  • Neighborhood identity is strengthened and celebrated

  • Residents champion and support the work of artists
